Marvel by the Month

#023: November 1963 (w/Levi Buchanan) - "The Human Torch Meets... Captain America"

Episode Summary

PiNKHEARTS co-creator Levi Buchanan returns to the show to chat about the NINE comics that Stan Lee wrote this month! Jack Kirby somehow drew six of them, including the first appearances of the Molecule Man, Giant-Man, Space Phantom, and Vanisher. Steve Ditko, no slouch himself, gives us our first looks at the Melter and the Lizard. And we hope you weren't too attached to Hulk being an Avenger, because it doesn't even take two issues before everyone figures out that he is not a team player.

Episode Notes

Note: We started out by titling these episodes with the cover date (the date that's printed on the cover), but we switched to their newsstand dates (the dates they went on sale) around episode #50. The newsstand date for this episode is August/September 1963.

[AUDIO NOTE: We're getting up to speed with some new hardware, and the first 30 minutes of this one are a little rough. But it improves dramatically after that - thank you for your patience and/or angry tweets!]
